5 Travelling Tips: How to keep your jewellery safe

Going on a trip? Want to look great while travelling?

You shouldn’t have to leave your jewelry behind while traveling, however, there are precautions you can take to help keep your valuables safe while you’re on the road.
It’s important to keep your jewels safe.  Especially the things that are invaluable to you, like your wedding ring. You just don’t want through the agony of losing it.
So let’s look at five strategies that you can do to keep your cherished items safe while traveling.
1. Always keep your jewelry in your carry-on luggage.
Even flight attendants will tell you not to put your valuables in your checked luggage. This way you will have it on your person at all times, assuming you never let your carry-on bag out of your sight.
Unfortunately checked baggage can be mishandled, left unattended, or kept in an unsecured place. Don’t take the risk, keep your jewelry in your carry-on instead.

  1. Take pictures of all of the jewelry you’re taking with you.
This is a good to do for a many reasons. Firstly so that you’ll remember what jewelry you brought with you. No sense in worrying if you lost your grandmother’s necklace when you know you left it at home.
Secondly, it gives you proof of ownership in case you lose something and it turns up in a lost and found.

  1. Cover it if you need to.
Wearing expensive jewelry can make you the target of theft or pickpockets. If you’re in an area known for such activities, take care to tuck your necklace inside your shirt, flip your engagement ring over so the jewel is on the inside of your hand, and cover any bracelets or watches with a sleeve.

  1. Before you go ensure your jewelry is insured.
You could be the most careful person in the world and still lose the stone out of your engagement ring, be the victim of a theft, or wear your watch into the ocean — accidents happen. The average renters and homeowners insurance doesn’t cover jewelry loss while traveling so it’s recommend to cover all of your bases with extra insurance.

  1. Keep your jewelry in a hotel safe when you’re not wearing it.
When you go to the beach or do an activity like zip-lining, you’re better off leaving your jewelry behind. But don’t just leave it in your luggage; your best bet in keeping your valuables safe is by keeping them in your hotel safe during your stay. If you’re staying somewhere else (like an Airbnb), be sure to ask your host if they have a safe available for your use.
If there isn’t a readily available safe, it is best to keep your jewellery on your person by having a small jewellery pouch that can be slipped inside your purse or money belt.
I hope that these jewellery travelling strategies will help you keep your jewels safe while you go exploring new locations.
Have a great trip! Enjoy!
